Pills (words and music by Alan Gillis)

Verse1
It was 'round about three weeks ago, feeling kind of rough
I went to see the doctor, just to get a pick-me-up.
He said "hey with a man as old as you, it's wrong to pre-suppose.
I need to run some routine tests to help me diagnose."

"We'll test your blood and take some water. Then we'll check your heart.
Next we'll measure your blood pressure - that's just for a start.
Your BMI's a little bit high - you're too short for your weight.
You'd better call round in a week or two to talk about your fate."

Chorus
Now I've got pills to make me feel good when I'm feeling low
Pills to help me sleep at night - pills to keep my heartbeat right,
Pills for my cholesterol; I'd better cut down on the fries
Cut down on the alcohol and take more exercise
I take pills for my depression, now I know that there's so much wrong
And pills to cure the side effects, so I can sing my song.

Verse 2
I went back for a check up - the Doc said "how d'you feel?"
I said I was doing fine before you told me I was ill
Now I'm so full of anxiety wond'ring what's going to get me first
I thought I was indestructible, then my bubble burst.

They took some blood and took some water. Then they checked my heart.
Next they measured my blood pressure. That was just the start.
My BMI's a little bit high - I'm too short for my weight.
I've aged ten years in a week or two, worrying 'bout my fate.

Repeat Chorus
